Early Life and Military Service

Alva Temple was born on February 27, 1918, in California. He attended San Jose State University, where he studied engineering and was a member of the Reserve Officers' Training Corps (ROTC). In 1942, Alva Temple was commissioned as a second lieutenant in the United States Army Air Corps, and was assigned to the Tuskegee Airmen. 

Tuskegee Airmen

The Tuskegee Airmen were a group of African American pilots who served in the United States Army Air Corps during World War II. Despite facing discrimination and segregation within the military, the Tuskegee Airmen distinguished themselves as highly skilled and courageous aviators, and played a crucial role in the Allied victory. 


Alva Temple was one of the Tuskegee Airmen's most accomplished pilots. He flew more than 100 combat missions in North Africa and Italy, and was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross for his bravery and skill. 

The Legacy of LTC Alva Temple

After the war, Alva Temple continued his career in aviation. He served as a flight instructor and later as a commander in the United States Air Force, retiring in 1968 with the rank of lieutenant colonel. Throughout Alva Temple's career, he was known for his leadership, integrity, and commitment to excellence. 


In addition to his military service, Alva Temple was also a dedicated community leader. He was a member of numerous organizations, including the Tuskegee Airmen Scholarship Foundation, and was recognized for his contributions to education, civil rights, and community service.
